두수

선원 (禪院)에서는 모든 승직을 동서 (東西)의 두 반 (班)으로 나누어, 서쪽 반 (班)의 소임은 두수 (頭首)라 하고, 동쪽 반 (班)의 소임은 지사 (知事)라고 불렀다. 두수 (頭首)는 지사 (知事) 다음으로 중요한 소임으로, 감사 (監査), 유나 (維那), 전좌 (典座) 등을 지사 (知事) 또는 주사 (主事)라 부르고; 수좌 (首座)(교육), 서기 (書記)(문서 담당), 장주 (藏主)(장경각 관리), 지객 (知客)(손님접대), 지욕 (知浴)(욕실 관리), 지전 (知殿)(대웅전 관리) 등을 육두수 (六頭首)라 불렀다. 육지사 (六知事) 참조
Head of the monks: Duties of the monks in the Seon monastery are divided into two houses, the West and the East. The duties of the West house are called dusu, consisting of six head monks: the secretary, Tripitaka manager or librarian, the registar of guests, the supervisor of the bathhouse, and the supervisor of the Dharma Hall such as lighting the incense. The duties of the East house are called directors of affairs or deacons, consisting of assistant abbot, the deacon in charge of discipline, the chief cook, the supervisor of rituals, the deputy abbot, and the estate manager.
