소승 (小乘) 12파 중의 하나로, 150 년경 설일체유부 (說一切有部)에서 발전해 온 소승부 (小乘部). 경량부는 인간의 삶의 근본을 구성하는 정교한 의식 (意識)이 존재하며, 그것이 한 삶에서 다음 생으로 계속 이어진다고 주장한다

Sautrantika, or the Sutra School: An important Hinayana school, which based its doctrine on the sutras alone. It is one of the twenty sects of Hinayana that developed out of the Sarvastivada or the Existence School around 150 C.E. This School claims the existence of a refined consciousness that constitutes the basis of human life and persists from one rebirth to the next.
