[袈裟, Gasa]

승려가 입는 법의 (法衣). 몇 개의 천을 이어서 만든 스님의 법의 (法衣). 장삼 (長衫) 위에 왼쪽 어깨에서 오른쪽 겨드랑이 밑으로 걸치는 네모로 된 긴 천. 또 가사는 전통적으로 인가 (印可)의 표시로 조사 (祖師)로부터 법제자( 法弟子)에게 전해졌다. 무구의 (無垢衣), 이진복 (離塵服), 공덕의 (功德衣), 방포 (方袍) 등 몇 가지 다른 이름들이 있다
Kasaya: A ceremonial upper robe of a Buddhist monk stitched from many square pieces of cloth. Traditionally this robe was passed down by patriarchs to their Dharma successors as an insignia of recognition. Other names for this robe are the immaculate robe, the dustless robe, the meritorious robe, etc.
