해인정 (海印定)이라고도 말하며 이것이 또 대원각 (大圓覺). 석가모니 부처님이 깨달음을 얻으신 후 화엄경 (華嚴經)을 설하실 때 들어가신 바다와 같은 선정 (禪定). 다시 말해 이는 마치 깊은 바다 속 밑바닥의 절대적 안정에 닻을 내린 것과 같다는 것. 이 적멸( 寂滅)의 상태에선 그 어떤 심한 파도도 고요한 마음의 안정을 해치지 못할 것이다

The ocean-seal samadhi or concentration: Absolute samadhi, or the unsurpassed concentration as tranquil as the great sea. It is the samadhi that Sakyamuni Buddha attained when he was expounding the Flower Garland Sutra after he had attained supreme enlightenment. In other words, it is like having dropped an anchor at the bottom of the deep sea. No turbulent waves or hurricane can disturb the complete quietude of the mind.
