부처님께서 법화경 이전에 말씀하신 삼승 (三乘)은 방편이므로 타개 (打開)하는 동시에, 삼승 (三乘)은 일승 (一乘)에서 나누어 말씀하신 것이므로, 일승 (一乘) 밖에 삼승 (三乘)이 없고, 삼승 밖에 일승 (一乘)이 따로 없다는 천태종에서 말하는 법화경의 융회 (融會)적 가르침. 그런데 귀일 (歸一)의 일 (一)이란 무엇인가? 그것은 삼라만상의 우주가 하나일 뿐만 아니라, 인간도 이와 하나이니, 이것이 곧 경 (經)에서 말하는 다즉일 (多卽一)이라는 것. 마치 강물이 바다에 흘러들어가 하나가 되듯이. 만법귀일 (萬法歸一)과 일승해 (一乘海) 참조

The Threefold-vehicle returns to the One-vehicle, or unification of three vehicles into the One-vehicle: The One-vehicle, or the Buddha-vehicle, is the principal body of the Threefold-vehicle. In other words, the Threefold-vehicle is the way leading to the final stage of enlightenment of the One-vehicle. As all rivers flow into the great sea from where they originated, the Threefold-vehicle eventually merges into the One-vehicle. This is also the theory of "many in the One, and the One in many." Cf.
