하나의 지극히 미세한 티끌 속에 온 우주가 들어 있고, 온 우주 속에서 하나의 티끌이 들어있으며, 일체의 티끌도 이와 같다는 뜻으로, 만물의 평등함과 공성 (空性)을 뜻함. 그리고 이것이 곧 우주의 실상 (實相)인 동시에 분별심을 여읜 깨달음의 경지.
'장자 莊子'에서도 이와 비슷한 말이 있다: (도추 道樞의 견지에서 보면), ‘천지도 하나의 손가락이고, 만물 또한 한 마리의 말이니라.’ 상즉상입 相卽相入 참조)

"The whole world is in a tiny particle, and so it is with every particle": It means there is no distinction between a tiny particle and the whole universe in the ultimate reality of emptiness. Chuang-tzu also says, "Heaven and Earth is nothing but a finger, and ten thousand things is nothing but a horse."
Enlightenment is none other than realization of this true nature of things without discrimination, and the interdependence of things, or the law of dependent arising. Cf. (Sangjeuk Sangip) Mutual interfusion or penetration of things without hindrance.
