이종 (二種)의 교문 (敎門)이라는 뜻으로, 여기에는 여러 가지가 있다. 그중 하나만을 소개하면, 진여문( 眞如門)과 생멸문 (生滅門).
1) 진여문이란 여래장 (如來藏)의 일심 (一心)을 말하며, 그 체성 (體性)은 평등일미 (平等一味)이어서 차별상을 여읜 진실여상 (眞實如常)을 말함. 다시 말해 불변진여로서 무명 (無明)의 연 (緣)에 합하지 않는 진여.
2) 생멸문이란 역시 여래장의 일심 (一心)으로 연 (緣)을 따라 생멸 (生滅)하는 차별상 (差別相)을 일으키는 것)

Two doors, gates, or entrances: There are a quite a few sets of these doors, and the following is one of them.
1) The gate of true-suchness or enlightenment: It is the one-mind of Tathagatagarbha or Tathagata's womb, whose everlasting one- taste of equanimity is never disturbed by conditions far from collaborating with ignorance.
2) The gate of birth and death or production and annihilation: In contrast to the one-taste of the door of true-suchness, it falls into discrimi- nating aspects of birth and death by following the conditions.
