혹장 (惑障), 곧 미혹의 장애를 두 가지로 나눈 것. 대표적인 이론으로 유식론 (唯識論)과 원각경 (圓覺經)이 있다.
1) 유식론 (唯識論)에서는 번뇌장 (煩惱障)과 소지장 (所知障)을 말함. 다시 말해 어리석음과 지식이 다같이 마음공부엔 장애가 된다는 것.
2) 그러나 원각경 (圓覺經)에서는 이장 (理障)과 사장 (事障)을 말하며. 이장 (理障)은 사물의 바른 인식에 장애를 일으키고, 현상 (現象)에 얽매이는 사장 (事障)은 윤회를 벗어나지 못하게 된다고 말한다.

The two hindrances or obstructions: Two major views are the Mind-only School and the view of the Complete Enlightenment Sutra:
1) The mind-only School: Passionate obstructions, or obstructions of afflictions or defilement; and objective obstructions of knowledge, or the intellectual hindrance.
2) The Complete Enlightenment Sutra: The Sutra classifies the obstruc- tion into hindrances of principle which obstruct correct cognition; and the hindrances of phenomena which invite the cycle of rebirth.
