심외무물 (心外無物)과 같은 뜻. 곧 바깥 경계는 오직 마음뿐이라는 뜻으로 일체가 마음의 거울. 그렇다면 허망한 경계에 매달릴 이유가 없으며 또 이것이 곧 진정한 깨달음. 그런데 마음이란 또 무엇? 이것 역시 하나의 경계로서 형상과 실체가 없음을 알아야 한다. 따라서 불교는 다름 아닌 허공과 같은 청정한 마음 비움 공부. 신 (神)이나 초월자 (超越者)에 대한 공부가 아닌

All things are created by the mind alone: The mind is the forerunner of everything. In other words, everything is only the product of the mind. Everything, including the whole universe, is the creation of the mind. Hence we call Buddhism a study of the mind, the mind-less mind, or emptying the mind, not a study of God, or a transcendental Being who is also the creation of the mind.
