모든 것은 자신의 소치 (所致), 누구를 원망하리? 불교에는 심판자가 없으며, 행위자인 자신이 스스로 심판자가 될 수밖에 없다. 그래서 어려우며 게을러서는 안 된다. 그러나 이것은 또 어떤 종교와는 달리, 결정적인 것이 아니라, 수행에 의해 업력 (業力)으로부터 스스로 벗어날 수 있는 길이 항상 열려 있음을 의미하기도 한다

As one does one receives: Everything is the retribution of one's own doing. Whatsoever a man reaps, that has he also sown, whether it is good or evil. In Buddhism, there is no transcendental being to judge the people. Everyone is the molder and the sole creator of his/her life to come. Herein lies the great responsibility of every individual. But in Buddhism, penalty or retribution is not final. There always is a way out from the wheel of bad karma by means of practice or cultivation of the mind.
