자기 마음 가운데 본래 갖추어 있는 성품이 부처와 다르지 않아, 미 (迷)하면 범부 (凡夫)가 되고 깨달으면 부처가 되는 것으로, 아미타불이나 극락정토가 먼 곳에 있는 것이 아니라 오직 자기 마음 가운데 있다는 것. 선종 (禪宗), 화엄종, 천태종에서 하는 말로, 일체가 유심조라는 원리에 따라 세운 교의 (敎義). 기독교의 원죄와 최후의 심판 참조

The Pure-land of Amitabha Buddha in self-nature and mind: One should never forget that the ultimate bliss in the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha in the West is in one's own pure self-nature and heart. The one who is in the dark is called the lesser-minded, and the one who is awakened is called the Buddha.
