수행을 통하여 도 (道)를 이루어 가는 다섯 가지 차례
1) 육안( 肉眼) (육신의 눈, 즉 장애물 너머의 사물은 보지 못하는 눈)
2) 천안 (天眼) (미세한 사물까지도 멀리 볼 수 있으며, 중생들의 미래의 생사의 모양도 볼 수 있는 눈)
3) 혜안 (慧眼) (차별과 망집 妄執의 생각을 버리고 우주의 진리를 통찰하는 눈)
4) 법안 (法眼) (일체 법을 분명하게 비추어보는 눈)
5) 불안 (佛眼) (모든 법계의 참모습을 확연히 깨달아 보시는 부처님의 눈)

The five eyes: Five progressive stages of eyes for the attainment of Bodhisattva, consisting of five different faculties of vision:
1) The fleshly or physical eye: The eye that cannot even see what is behind the obstacle.
2) The divine eye: The eye that is not only able to see a tiny particle in the distance but the future mode of life of sentient beings as well.
3) The wisdom eye: The eye with an insight into the truth of the universe free from delusion and grasping.
4) The Dharma-eye: The eye with an insight into the ultimate truth of Dharma.
5) The Buddha-eye: The eye that sees all and is omniscient.
