[五忍, O-in]

(보살이 법리 (法理)를 깨달아 마음이 편안히 머무는 정도에 따라 세운 계위 (階位))
1) 복인 (伏忍) (번뇌를 제복 (制伏)했으나 아직 단멸하지 못한 십지 보살도 (十地 菩薩道) 이전 삼현 (三賢)의 자리)
2) 신인 (信忍) (무루 (無漏)의 믿음을 얻은 십지보살도 (十地菩薩道)의 첫 이지 (二地)와 삼지 (三地))
3) 순인 (順忍) (이 (理), 곧 진리에 순응하여 무생 (無生)의 깨달음을 지향하는 사지 (四地)에서 육지 (六地)까지를 말함)
4) 무생인 (無生忍 )(제법무생 (諸法無生)의 진리를 깨달아 이를 인정하고 안주하는 칠지( 七地)에서 구지 (九地)까지를 말함)
5) 적멸인 (寂滅忍) (모든 미혹을 끊고 적정 (寂靜)의 깨달음에 안주하는 제 십지 (十地) 및 불과 (佛果)를 말함)The five tolerances: Five stages or levels of abiding in enlightenment according to the degrees of realization of the ultimate principle of the Buddha-dharma.
1) Subjugation or control of defilement: The stage of the three sages, who are yet to strive for a complete cessation of defilement.
2) The tolerance of faith: Stages of the second and third grounds of the Bodhisattva way, where one attains complete faith.
3) The tolerances of adaptation: Stages from the fourth to sixth ground of the Bodhisattva way, where one strives to attain the wisdom of non-birth.
4) The tolerance of non-birth: Stages from the seventh to ninth ground of the Bodhisattva way, where one attains the truth of non-birth of all Dharmas or things.
5) The tolerance of dispassionate tranquility: Stages of the tenth ground of the Bodhisattva way and Buddhahood, where one abides in enlightenment of serenity and quietude without any defilement.
