The five kinds of contrition: In Tientai Sect, they are: 1) Asking for forgiveness by repenting the sins. 2) Imploring the discourse to the Buddha so that one may deliver sentient beings who are in the dark. 3) Rejoicing with others for their good conducts. 4) Dedication or transference of merits for the benefit of other beings. 5) Great aspiration for attaining enlightenment.
However, in the True Word Sect, Five Kinds of Contrition means recitation of five sections of stanza when they practice teachings of the Diamond Realm or Mandala: obeisance to the Buddha, repentance, rejoicing with others for their good conducts, imploring the discourse to the Buddha, and dedication of merits for the benefit of other beings.
