오력
[五力, Oryeok]

오근 (五根 )이라고도 말함. 이때 근 (根)은 힘이라는 뜻. 다섯 가지 힘, 또는 수행과정에 있어서의 정신력. 오력 (五力)에는 두 가지가 있다
1. 수행에 필요한 다섯 가지 덕목 (德目) 또는 힘:
1) 신력 (信力) (불법을 믿고 다른 것을 믿지 않는 신심 (信心))
2) 진력 (進力) (선을 짓고 악을 멀리함에 게으름이 없는 끈기)
3) 염력 (念力) (생각을 바로 가지고 사특한 생각을 버리는 것)
4) 정력 (定力) (선정 (禪定)을 닦아 어지러운 생각을 버리는 것)
5) 혜력 (慧力) (지혜를 닦아 불교의 진리인 사제 (四諦)를 깨닫는 것)
2. 오근 (五根)의 힘이 실체화된 상태로, 불가사의한 작용이 있는 다섯 가지 힘:
1) 정력 (定力) (온갖 선정 (禪定)의 힘)
2) 통력 (通力) (일체 신통력 (神通力)의 힘)
3) 차식력 (借識力) (이선천 (二禪天) 이상에는 오식 (五識)이 없으므로 필요하면 신통으로 자유롭게 초선 (初禪)에서 오식 (五識)을 일으키는 것)
4) 원력 (願力) (부처님과 보살의 큰 원력의 힘)
5) 법위덕력 (法威德力) (부처님의 가르침이 갖는 위엄과 덕망의 힘)Five Powers: These are the same as the five spiritual faculties, at a further stage of development. There are two different types:
1. Five powers required to attain enlightenment:
1) The power of faith, or firm belief in the Buddha and Buddhism.
2) The power of exertion or effort, or constant application of great effort.
3) The power of mindfulness or recollection, which keeps away false thoughts.
4) The power of samadhi or concentration, which keeps away distracting thoughts.
5) The power of wisdom to comprehend the Four Noble Truths.
2. Five mysterious powers:
1) The power of samadhi or meditation.
2) All kinds of psychic power.
3) The non-hindrance power of the five organs.
4) The power of the great vows of Buddha and Bodhisattva.
5) The power of dignity and virtue of Dharma.
