오성각별 (五性各別) 또는 오종성 (五種性) 이라고도 말하며, 유식종( 唯識宗)에서 주장하는 중생의 다섯 가지 타고난 성품 (性品)
1) 보살정성 (菩薩定性) (본래부터 부처가 될 무루 (無漏) 종자를 갖춘 중생)
2) 연각정성 (緣覺定性) (벽지불 (辟支佛)이 될 무루 (無漏) 종자를 갖춘 중생)
3) 성문정성 (聲聞定性) (아라한이 될 무루 (無漏) 종자를 갖춘 중생)
4) 삼승부정성 (三乘不定性) (두 가지 종자나 세 가지 종자를 갖춘 중생. 이것은 다시 네 가지로 분류된다)
5) 무성유정 (無性有情) (성문, 연각, 보살의 무루( 無漏) 종자는 없고, 다만 오계 (五戒)나 십선계 (十善戒)를 닦으므로 인승 (人乘)이나 천승 (天乘)이 될 유루 (有漏) 종자를 갖춘 중생)

The five different inborn natures of sentient beings: The doctrine of the Mind-only School.
1) Bodhisattva nature: One who is born with the undefiled Buddha-nature.
2) Pratyeka-buddha nature: One who is born with the undefiled nature of independently-awakened Buddha.
3) Shravaka nature: One who is born with the undefiled nature of the Sound-hearing Arhat.
4) Undefined nature of two or three vehicles: One who is born with either of the two or three vehicles.
5) No Buddha-nature of sentient beings: One who is born with no hope of attaining supreme enlightenment. Yet there still is a hope of reborn as a human or a heavenly being through cultivation of the five basic precepts and ten good conducts.
