팔관재계 (八關齋戒), 팔재계 (八齋戒), 또는 팔계재 (八戒齋)라고도 말함. 오계 (五戒)에 다음 세 가지를 추가한 것. 관 (關)은 금지한다는 뜻) 1) 높거나 큰 자리에 앉지 말 것. 2) 꽃이나 다른 장신구를 몸에 달거나 가무와 놀이를 배우거나 보지 말 것. 3) 때 아닌 때 음식을 먹지 말 것.

The eight precepts, or commandments: The following are additional precepts to the basic five precepts: 1) One should not sit on the large and lofty seat. 2) One should not adorn themselves with flowers and other ornaments, nor sing nor listen to singing, nor dance nor watch other amusements. 3) One should not eat when it is not the meal time, i.e., after meridian.
