팔해탈
[八解脫, Palhaetal]

팔배사 (八背捨)라고도 말하며, 여덟 단계의 관념 (觀念), 곧 마음 집중을 통해 탐착심 (貪着心)을 버려 이루어지는 해탈. 이 마음집중을 통해 오욕 (五慾)의 경계를 여의고, 탐하고 고집하는 마음을 버림으로 배사 (背捨)라고 말하며, 또 이것으로 말미암아 삼계 (三界)의 번뇌를 끊고 아라한과를 증득하므로 해탈이라고 말함. 1-3 단계는 특정한 일반적 물질세계와 관련이 있으며, 4-7 단계 는 선정 (禪定)에 관한 내용이며, 마지막 8 단계는 최상의 깨달음을 뜻함
1) 내유색상관외색해탈 (內有色想觀外色解脫) (내심 (內心)에 색욕 (色慾)에 대한 생각이 있어 이를 제거하기 위하여 밖에 있는 부정관 (不淨觀)을 닦음)
2) 내무색상관외색해탈 (內無色想觀外色解脫) (내심 (內心)에 색욕 (色慾)은 사라 졌으나 다시 이것을 확실히 하기 위하여 밖에 있는 부정관을 닦음)
3) 정해탈신작증구족 (淨解脫身作證俱足) (신체적으로 즐거우며 청정한 해탈에 안정하게 머무름)
4) 공무변처해탈 (空無邊處解脫) (물질적인 상 (相)을 모두 멸하여 허공과 같은 가의 없는 선정 (禪定)에 들어가는 것)
5) 식무변처해탈 (識無邊處解脫) (의식을 떠난 가의 없는 해탈에 들어가는 것)
6) 무소유처해탈 (無所有處解脫) (가진 것이 없는 해탈로 무소유와 바람이 없는 세계에 들어가는 것)
7) 비상비비상처해탈 (非想非非想處解脫) (무색계 (無色界)의 사천 (四天)인 생각도 아니고 생각 아님도 아닌 해탈에 들어가는 것)
8) 멸수상정해탈 (滅受想定解脫) (생각과 느낌의 작용이 완전히 사라진 위없는 경계의 해탈에 들어가는 것)Eight kinds of meditation to free one from attachments: Progressive meditation practices that move through eight stages of concentration as aids to overcoming all clinging to corporeal and non-corporeal factors. The first three liberations form specific links to the ordinary perceptual world; the fourth through seventh equals to the four absorptions; and the eighth represent the highest attainment.
1) Cultivation of the mind to awareness of the impurity of things to eradicate the carnal desire within.
2) Cultivation of the mind to the impurity of things to maintain the absence of the carnal desire within.
3) Abiding in the immaculate enlightenment, or the physical realization of pleasant liberation and its successful consolidation.
4) Entering into the mindfulness of infinite space leaving all the material distinctions behind, or the full entrance to the infinity of space by transcending all conceptions of matter.
5) Abiding in the boundless enlightenment with no consciousness, or complete entrance into the infinity of consciousness, having transcended the infinity of space.
6) Abiding in the enlightenment of non-possession, or the full entrance into the sphere of nothingness. having transcended the sphere of the infinite consciousness.
7) Abiding in the enlightenment of neither perception nor non-perception, or complete entrance into sphere of neither consciousness nor unconsciousness, having transcended the sphere of nothingness.
8) Abiding in the enlightenment of the cessation of thought and feeling, or the perfect cessation of suffering, having transcended the sphere of neither consciousness nor unconsciousness.
