사리이관 (事理二觀)이라고도 말함. 사관 (事觀)은 현상계의 구체적인 사물에 대하여 관찰함을 말하고, 이관 (理觀)은 추상적 진리를 관찰함을 말함. 또 몸과 마음을 관하는 것은 (事觀). 진여, 실상, 그리고 불성을 관하는 것을 이관 (理觀)이라 말하기도 함. 그런가 하면 천태종 (天台宗)의 해석에 의하면, 관찰의 형식이 추론적인 것은 사관 (事觀), 직관적인 것은 이관 (理觀)이라 함

The two insights, practical and abstractive or intuitive: Practical insight means investigation of actual phenomena including the body and mind; and abstract or intuitive insight means looking into the principles of ultimate reality or truth, Buddha-nature, etc. However, according to the Tientai Sect, that which is deductive is called practical insight and that which is intuitive is called the abstract insight.
