깨침의 세 가지 모습. 대승기신론 (大乘起信論)에서 다루고 있는 깨달음의 총칭
1) 본각 (本覺) (사람의 마음은 본시부터 맑고 깨끗한 성품을 가지고 있다는 것)
2) 시각( 始覺) (불법을 듣고 무명에서 벗어나 깨달음을 얻게 된다는 것)
3) 구경각 (究竟覺) (궁극적인 무상정각 (無上正覺))

Threefold or three kinds of enlightenment of the Awakening of Mahayana Faith:
1) Primal awakening: The innate pure self-nature of all beings.
2) Inceptive awakening: Initiation of attaining enlightenment upon hearing the Buddha-dharma leaving defilement behind.
3) Ultimate awakening: Attaining Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, or complete and unexcelled enlightenment.
