삼계 (三界)의 하나. 욕계 (欲界)와 무색계 (無色界)의 중간 세계로 욕계제천 (欲界諸天) 위에 있는 물질적 세계. 욕계와 같은 음욕과 식욕 등의 탐욕은 여의였으나, 아직 무색계처럼 완전히 물질마저 여의지는 못한 세계
