열반경 (涅槃經)에 나오는 말씀으로, ‘모든 행이 무상하여 이 생 (生)이 멸하는 법이요, 생 (生)이 멸한다는 것도 멸하여 적멸의 경지에 이르러야 참다운 즐거움이 된다’라고 하는 것으로, 앞의 이구 (二句)는 생사법 (生死法)을 설한 것이고, 뒤의 이구 (二句)는 열반법 (涅槃法)을 설한 것

Extinction of life and self according to the Parinirvana Sutra: The law of impermanence and extinction of birth of all phenomena or things. Yet the true equanimity and pleasure lies in the wisdom of the realization of even the impermanence of the law of impermanence and extinction of birth and extinction.
