목숨이 다하여 다른 세계에 가서 태어나는 것. 극락왕생, 시방왕생 (十方往生), 그리고 도솔왕생 (兜率往生) 등이 있다. 극락왕생은 아미타불의 서방정토에 태어나는 것을 말하며, 시방왕생은 아미타불 이외의 제불의 정토에 태어나는 것을 말하며, 도솔왕생은 미륵보살이 현존하는 도솔천에 태어나는 것을 말함. 그리고 왕생의 방법에는 염불왕생 (부처님의 이름을 부름으로 인하여 왕생하는 것)과 제행왕생 (諸行往生) (염불 이외의 착한 행위를 해서 왕생함) 등이 있다

Rebirth in the other world: There are three types of rebirth. The first is the rebirth in the Pure Land of Amitabha in the West. The second is the rebirth in the Pure Land in the Ten Directions other than the Pure Land of Amitabha. The third is the rebirth in the Tushita Heaven where Maitreya is abiding at present. There are several other ways of rebirth, and two of them are by reciting the names of Buddha, and by performing good deeds other than reciting the names of Buddha.
