염주
Yeomju]
-
The Buddhist rosary: A string of beads that is used for counting the recitation of mantras, dharanies, and the names of Buddha or Bodhisattva. 108 beads represent 108 defilements, and it is believed that every time one counts the beads, a defilement and sin escapes. That is why they keep counting the beads for hours and hours when they chant the name of Buddha or Bodhisattva to cleanse the mind of all their sins and defilements.
