가행도 (加行道) 또는 방편도 (方便道)라고도 말함. 가행이란 힘을 더하여 더욱 정진한다는 의미로서 실질적인 유식수행 (唯識修行)의 가장 중요한 영역. 다시 말해 자량위 (資量位)의 단계가 복덕과 지혜로서 내적인 자질과 역량을 키우는 단계라면, 가행위는 인식의 주객이 본래 존재하지 않음을 통찰하여 어디에도 안주하지 않는 참된 유식 (唯識)의 도리를 깨닫는 것을 말함. 유식 (唯識)에 들어오면 이렇게 어려운 말들이 많이 나온다. 그러나 조금만 인내심을 가지면 곧 알게 된다. 오위 (五位) 참조

A stage of added effort or preparation: A developing stage in the effort to achieve enlightenment. This is the second stage of five stages of spiritual development. If Jaryangwi, the first stage of the five stages of spiritual development, is the stage of accumulation of merit and wisdom, the stage of added effort is the stage of realization of emptiness of the subject and object parts of all beings in the whole universe--the primal doctrine of the Mind-only School.
