Ox-herding, or mind cultivation: In Buddhism, ox means the mind. Hence ox-herding in Buddhism means cultivation of the mind just as training the headstrong ox. But, in truth, there is no mind to cultivate, and realization of this truth is, in a sense, enlightenment.
