Aniruddha: One of the ten major disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha. His name is also translated as Yeoui or "everything goes well as one wishes," Ijang or "emancipation from defilement," Mutam or "non-craving," Mumyeol or "non-extinction," and Seonui or "good intention." He is a cousin of Sakyamuni Buddha, the second son of Amrta-dana, younger brother of King Suddhodana, the father of Sakyamuni Buddha.
He became a follower of the Buddha with Nanda, Ananda, and Devadatta. He once fell asleep before the Buddha, and was reprimanded for the misconduct. After the incident, he practiced harder than ever, never closing his eyes, and consequently became blind. Yet he attained the stage of the foremost in the heavenly eyes, the ability to see things and events at great distances.
