자기 마음을 비추어 밝혀보다. 자심 (自心)이란 자기 마음이 곧 부처임을 말하며, 또 부처란 우주의 실체를 말함. 따라서 참선이든 염불이든, 또는 간경 (看經)이든 송주 (誦呪)이든, 모든 부처님 공부란 곧 이것을 말하는 것이니, 나와 나의 마음, 나의 마음과 부처, 곧 나의 마음과 우주의 실체인 부처와 하나가 되는 것이 곧 마음공부이며 해탈

Reflection or introspection of one's own mind: What is one's own mind? It is the Buddha in your own mind. What is Buddha? It is true-suchness or the ultimate reality of the universe. All the learning and practice of Buddhism, whether they are meditation, studying the sutras, recitation of the Buddha's name, or recitation of a dharani, lies in this one word--observing or realizing the Buddha in one's own mind.
