두 손바닥을 가볍게 합하여 가슴 앞에 두며, 마음이 한결같음을 나타내는 예법 (禮法)으로 인사, 감사한 마음, 존경, 또는 기원 (祈願 )등을 의미하며, 특히 동양문화권에서 널리 행해지고 있음. 그러나 이는 또 우주와 내가 하나라는 뜻도 있음. 그리고 밀교에서는 특히 그 공덕이 광대 무량하다고 함

Pressing one's palms together: Mudra made by joining one's palms and putting them in front of the breast as a sign of reverence. Both palms are put lightly together in front of the chest. It is a traditional Buddhist gesture of greeting, gratitude, veneration, supplication, or constancy of the mind, a common practice throughout the Asian countries. However, it also symbolizes the unification of the mind with the universe and the Buddha. In Esoteric Buddhism, it is regarded as boundless merit.
